I'm very honored to have
had Chicken Soup
for the Soul
stories published in
four books. The most
successful book series
in the history of
publishing, it was the
creation of
internationally known
speakers Mark Victor
Hansen and Jack
Canfield. Known for
using inspirational
stories in their
speaking engagements,
they decided to put
their stories into a
book.
However, they didn't
just focus on their own
stories. They sought out
other contributions of
"powerful tales of
ordinary people doing
extraordinary things."
That first book had 101
most uplifting and
inspirational stories.
But they needed a name
for their book.
Then, it came to them.
Jack Canfield remembered
his grandmother and her
chicken soup. Jack
remembered how she told
him it would cure
anything. Jack and
Mark wanted their book
to have the same healing
powers as her soup.
However, instead of
healing the body,
it would heal the
soul: Chicken
Soup for the Soul.
The first book in the
series was published in
1993 and became a
#1 New York Times
Best-Seller.
Since then, more than
112 million books have
been sold in the United
States and Canada alone.
There are almost 200
titles in print and and
the series has been
translated into more
than 40 languages.
According to Harris
Polls, 88.7% of the
public recognize the
Chicken Soup for the
Soul brand.
In 2007, USA
TODAY's book
editors and critics
chose 25 titles that
made an impact on
readers and the
publishing industry over
the past
quarter-century.
Chicken Soup for the
Soul occupies
the
#5 spot on their
list.
